Kashimashi ~ Girl Meets Girl ~

BOAS is under the feeling that he hasn't mentioned this anime/manga enough. COME ON, THE TITLE IS GIRL MEETS GIRL! ENOUGH SAID. Seriously, give it a sample over at anime-source.

Engineering Style

If there are any engineering C/C++ programmers out there reading this please please give me a snippet of your normal program style code. I've been steamin' over what seems to be lame old style conventions that aren't even useful nowadays. BUT I did want to see some professional work, so please... ANYONE?!

Jigoku Shoujo OST

It's out and I had a chance to flavor the tunes of hell. Most of the songs are backgrounds used in the anime series but finally the full version of Karanui was released. Karanui is just wonderful filled with melody and enka goodness. Also the singer is Mamiko Noto who's voice is truly angelic. Definately on par with gokuraku chu get the jigoku pun?

The Death of Learning

You know, as I spend hours upon hours looking through Win32 API references on functions, macros, resources, etcetera which literally span hundred of pages; I came to think of the visual builder. As with all WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) builders for programs, websites, etcetera I'm of the opinion that one should have a strong understanding of the basic text code being generated by these builders. Without actually knowing what's going on behind the pretty pictures, it's pretty much useless to try and build something with more creativity than what you're given. Just look at what's happened with HTML and for that matter all mark-up languages in which anyone running a GUI website builder can make and load whatever crap they want without having to type one <>. That is the death of learning!

Tech, Programming and Stuff...

Hasn't it been a while since this blog posted anything on tech or programming? Well that's because nothing much has been happening. Seriously, not even CES brought anything too exciting. Anyway, recently I've been wanting to start Windows API programming and stumbled on theForger's tutorial. Also, Google stands adamant in not releasing data to the US government proving once again that ppl have more trust in the Google gods than the US State department.

Ayakashi

Classic horror not the ecchi game has caught my eye. I wonder if there'll be any freaky Japanese albino children in it... Wait maybe that was a rhetorical question?

FYI I didn't want to know

San Diego, CA, Monday, January 16, 2006 - JAST USA, a distributor of Japanese PC dating-sim games for adults, has announced the immediate availability of "Enzai - Falsely Accused," the first love simulation game for fans of "yaoi", From ANN: Anime News Network.

For those of you who know what yaoi is, then you either concur! Or you're visiting eBay right this moment...

Parakiss OST

I finally got my ears around the Paradiss Kiss OST and it is kick'in. The OST is two discs with one disk featuring The Babys and the other with the singles from Tommy Feburary6 and Franz Ferdinand. All the music you loved from the series is packed with the exception of "Choose Me or Die" by TommyFeb6, idk what happened. Pick up this OST, it's the best release since Advent Children.

Dakishimeru

Sometimes you just need a hug...

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru

Description from AnimeNfo:

During the winter, Yuichi was hospitalized due to hepatitis. Randomly he would try to escape from the hospital but would get beat up by the nurse. One day, he happened to meet Rika, a girl of his age, in the next building. He was fascinated by her beauty, but she was very selfish girl. Although she led him by the nose, he began to be attracted by her. However, when Rika told him about her illness, he knew why she acted so selfish; she didn't have long to live.

Another new anime on the horizon that looks promising. For screenshots check out Memento.

Kashimashi~Girl Meets Girl~

Another new anime on the scene. Description from Animenfo:

Hazumu confessed his love to Yasuna, but was turned down. To ease his heartache, he went to Mt. Kashimayama where he’d first met her. However, he became lost and night fell. Suddenly, he saw a big shooting star in the sky. As he began to make a wish, he abruptly realised that it wasn’t a shooting star, but a falling space ship! Although he was injured in the crash, he managed to survive through the help of the alien occupant. However, he became a girl due to an accident during the reconstruction of his body.

P.S. I recently had the opportunity to view Magikano, also a new 06 anime. The first episode sucked, I don't have high expectations for the rest of the show.

Stumble Upon Geisha

In December 05 I enthusiastically went to see Memoirs of a Geisha, Rob marshall's latest "creative" feat. Soon thereafter I forgot about the movie as the New Year swept around. Today, I stumbled upon a BBC article hyping the movie for the UK release and I thought it may be a good time to share my thoughts. Don't get me wrong, I really really wanted to like this movie!
First the actresses, their Chinese. That sucks. I understand that Rob Marshall thinks he can justify this with "I'm just looking for good actresses" but here's the thing -- it didn't work. From the BBC article this quote was offered on the subject,
"In Asia, we constantly play Koreans, Malay, Chinese. We do not question that, as you do not question an Englishman playing an American or a German."
Yet another genius key point... But Americans, English, and Germans all commemorate the end of WWII together. Some other nations don't. Bottom line, finding the "best" actors and actresses for a role without considering "reality" works great for films like Frank Herbert's Dune; let's not kid ourselves Memoirs of a Geisha falls short of that 5 hour epic.
Next is the language of the film. First it's Japanese then it's English then it's Japanese and then it's BAD Japanese and English. WTF. Even Zhang Ziyi was nervous as this was her first English speaking role; and I forgive her for that but she didn't have to tread on Japanese too. That's just asking for it.
Let me end by saying that it's not all bad. Zhang Ziyi is still "HOT", Bao Li is still the classic beauty, the dancing is nice, and the cinematics were shiny, that's about it.

Piratpartiet

"Tired of being called criminals, a group of Swedish filesharers have started a new political party, The Piracy Party (Piratpartiet in Swedish). The party wants to abolish all intellectual property laws, reverse the data retention directive passed by the EU last month, and protect privacy with new laws. The party expresses no opinion on other subjects. The Piracy Party's webpage is so far only available in Swedish, at piratpartiet.se The party's goal is to get into to the parliament, which requires 4% of the votes, or roughly 225000 votes. Elections are held in September."
